I have a couple articles around here someplace I'd read years ago about the Snider, and one had to do with using smokless powder. My luck to date using BP has been rather lackluster. I suppose a charging bunch of Fuzzy Wuzzies would be in danger once within 100 yards or so, but I'd merely be "Shooting Amongst'em" . Once advanced to maybe 25 yards I'd then be able to select individuals as targets. 
The carbine. It's a cut down rifle with a Mkll** action, lock plate dated 1861. I believe I'd posted about it before, long ago. A buddy of mine in Canada discovered I fooled with Sniders (I have a 3 band) and he asked if I'd like ot have some parts. I said sure (duh!). He sent the carbine all taken apart and the only thing missing was the hammer screw. Whoever hacksawed the barrel off left it...
